Celebrating Our One Year Stream-iversary!

One year ago on December 11, 2017 I decided to start a writing stream. Living in the middle of nowhere Japan, it was impossible to find other English writers, and I missed the groups that I had in Boston.

Thankfully I remembered that the Internet is a thing that exists.

And now we are a writing force to be reckoned with! To celebrate how awesome everyone is for helping to make our stream the best place to be three times a week, we had a celebration of writing games, announcements, and more.

You can watch the ENTIRE stream here if you’d like, or scroll down for highlights.

#1. The End of the ScottWritesStuff 2018 BEST STORY TOURNAMENT!

Over the past eleven streams, through the magic of Strawpolls, we’ve been whittling down the best stories we’ve written over the last year. Today it finally came down to the top three, but only one story could remain. That winner was… Heavy Memories!

Here’s their rankings for all 30 stories. It should be noted that even just being on this list as an honorable mention is great. We’ve written a TON of stories on stream, and these are the best of the best.

#2. I Guess Your Writing

Next we played a game where everyone wrote a 100-word story that started with this sentence: “It was a post-apocalyptic Christmas.”

I stayed blind to what everyone wrote, and then I tried to guess who wrote each one. If I got it on my first guess I got one point, and if I got it on my second I got half a point.

In the end, out of 14 stories, I got a total of 4 points! Three correct answers and two half-points. Way better than my previous attempt where I only got one point!

#3. Announcement for My Book

In honor of the stream-iversary, I showed off the cover, summary, and first few pages of my upcoming book Metl: The ANGEL Weapon.

This was the first time anyone outside of my friends, family and publisher had seen it, so I was pretty nervous! I was so happy when everyone in chat seemed to really like it.

If you want to check it out for yourself, here’s the links to the book on Amazon and Goodreads. Feel free to add it to your TBR list!

#4. ScottWritesStuff Fanfiction

To finish off the extravaganza, we did a baton-pass writing collaboration. Eight people picked a character from the stream (someone from a story we’ve written or one of my multiple personalities), and then they had 10 minutes to write a piece of a story. The person after them would then pick up the baton and continue the story until we reached the end.

What we ended up with was absolutely beautiful. If you think your eyes and/or brain can handle looking at the shimmering face of Creation, then by all means check out what we made here.

All in all it was an absolute blast, the perfect way to celebrate the past year. Here’s to hoping that 2019 is another year of learning, ranting, trolling, and of course, writing.

If you want to join us and help write a story by trolling in chat, or share your own writing for feedback, then we’d love to have you. We stream on Twitch every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday at 6:30pm-10:30pm (U.S. Eastern Standard Time).

And you missed the stream, you can still watch them on the YouTube channel or watch the full stream reruns.

Hope to see you next time, friend!

Scott Wilson is the author of the novel Metl: The ANGEL Weapon,
forthcoming March 2019.
