The 12-Hour Stream Where Chat Made Me Eat Bees and Dye My Hair Rainbow

Well, the 12-hour stream is over, and I’ve learned one thing.

Never create “joke goals” for donations, because chat will make them happen.

Last Saturday we had the 12-hour livestream to celebrate the upcoming release of my sequel, Metl 2: The Last Wish.

Abbey and I read the entire first book live on stream, from cover to cover, in addition to doing giveaways, Q&A, and challenges based on total donations from viewers.

You can watch the entire thing here,

Well, I’d added the $1,000 goal as a joke, but chat made it clear that they saw it as deadly serious. Being a man of my word, Abbey and I went to a specialty salon a few days later.

The before picture.

Luckily the salon was perfect for the quarantine and social distancing that was going on. Everyone used masks and gloves, disinfected their hands constantly, washed all the tools, and there were no other customers to come anywhere near in contact with.

It almost put me at ease for the insanity that awaited.

First things first, a regular haircut to trim the wildness a bit.

Wait… you mean we’re not done?

They had to bleach my hair, to temporarily turn me into an aristocrat vampire.

After they washed out the bleach, I turned into…

…oh god. I’m a 90s skateboard punk! Quick, put in the rainbows!

The eyes of a man who’s realized he’s made a mistake.

It took over an hour and a half to put in each of the little pieces of foil, every one a different chunk of the rainbow.

And then it came time for removal.

OH NO I’M A PEACOCK!

Time for another washing, which turned the peacock into…

…something actually not half bad!

Ooh, I’m all chrome-y and shiny.

ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED, CHAT???

Now I know never to underestimate the power of collective spite ever again!

If you want to make me feel better about the situation, be sure to pre-order the sequel Metl 2: The Last Wish if you’d like.

Until then, I will enjoy the stares and whispers I get from old Japanese men and women out here in the rice fields. They thought I was a scary foreigner before, THEY AIN’T SEEN NOTHIN’ YET.
