The Writing Prompt Survival Tournament

Thirty prompts enter the arena, but only one can leave with the glory.

The glory of being written.

During the last stream, we held the first Writing Prompt Survival Tournament. For 10 minutes, anyone in chat could suggest any writing prompt they wanted. At the end of the 10 minutes, we put EVERY prompt into a poll, and then chat voted on which ones would make it to the next round.

Out of thirty prompts, these four got the most votes:

1. Write about mythological creature who escapes a fantasy realm and he or she arrives in the modern world. The creature can speak and they are a genius.
2. Writers fight each other using their novels.
3. Your parents send you to summer camp, and on lake day you fall out of your canoe. You can’t swim, but you realize that you can breathe underwater.
4. The Devil’s hands are tied, he wants to start the apocalypse, but Hell’s government votes against it. Instead, he tortures the world with a different, more subtle punishment: SHREK.

We put these top four into another poll, and I bet you can guess which prompt came out on top.

…yup, it was the devil and Shrek.

If you want to join us and help write a story by trolling in chat, or share your own writing for feedback, then we’d love to have you. We stream on Twitch every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday at 7:30pm-10:30pm (U.S. Eastern Standard Time).

And you missed the stream, you can still watch them on the YouTube channel, or watch the full stream reruns.

Hope to see you next time, friend!
